Imperial Germany: Trench art brass model of the
WW1 German Fokker D.VIII fighter monoplane
aircraft.
The model is made of shell/projectile parts while
the wheels (rotatable) appear to be buttons with
a royal monogram on them.
The propeller is rotatable.
The Fokker D.VIII only entered the war in its final
stage in July 1918.
During its short time in service, it had little time
to prove its worth, however it was agile, easy to
fly and proved to be an excellent fighter.
The famous ace Erich Lowenhardt of Jasta 5
used the aircraft for a short time and scored a
few victories in it.
A total of 381 aircraft were produced, but only
some 85 aircraft reached front-line service before
the Armistice.
Some reached Italy, Japan, the United States, and
England as trophies, but most were scrapped in
accordance with the terms of the Armistice.
It was the last Fokker design to fly in the war and
the last to score a victory.
The allied pilots nicknamed the plane "The Flying
Razor", because of its sleek appearance and single
wing.
