Imperial Germany - Wurttemberg: Veteran Badge
of the 26th Infantry Division of the Royal Army of
Wurttemberg. Bronze badge, in the form of a steel
helmet.
The Division was established in 1817 as the 1st
Royal Infantry Division of Wurttemberg, based in
Stuttgart.
In 1871 it was renamed to the 26th Division (1st
Royal Division of Wurttemberg).
During WW1, the 26th Division took part in the
battle of Agronne and in the 1st Battle of Flanders
(1914).
On Dec. 1914 it was transferred to the Eastern
Front (Campaign of Poland and of the Carpathian
Mountains).
In 1915 it took part in the Campaign against
Serbia and in Dec. 1915 it was transferred again
to the Western Front where it participated in the
battles of the Somme, Arras and Artois.
In 1917 it was moved to the Italian Front and took
part in the battles of Isonzo.
The last year of the War fount the 26th Division on
the Western Front where it fought in the battles of
Champagne, Soissons and Reims.
Following the armistice the Division returned to
Germany and was demobilized in Stuttgart in 1919.
