Germany (Weimar Republic) - Bavaria:
Commemorative Medal for the Jubilee of the
2nd Bavarian Infantry Regiment "Kronprinz"
(Crown Prince).
Signed CvH.
The medal was issued to the Veterans of the
Regiment in 1932.
It was issued on the occasion of the 250th
anniversary (1682-1932) of the 4 oldest
Bavarian regiments (the other regiments
were the 10th Infantry Regiment "King", the
1st Light Cavalry Regiment and the 2nd
Light Cavalry Regiment). The Veterans of the
other 3 Regiments were also awarded 3
respective medals.
The 2nd Infantry Regiment was formed in
1682 by Elector Max Emanuel.
The Regiment participated in several conflicts
and its name changed several times, the title
however "Crown Prince" remained.
During WW1 it was part of the 6th Army under
Crown Prince Rupprecht and suffered great
losses.
After the war, 3 companies of the 19th
Bavarian Infantry Regiment took over the
tradition.
The medal is very rare.
