Attributed to an NCO (Company Sergeant) of 
the 25th (County of London) Cyclist Battalion 
of the London Regiment.

The 25th (County of London) Cyclist Battalion 
was originally formed on 26 Feb. 1888 as the 26th 
Middlesex (Cyclist) Volunteer Corps. In 1908 the 
unit became part of the newly created London 
Regiment.
Men of the unit took part in the campaign in 
Waziristan (1919), 3rd Afghan War and some were 
present at the Amritsar Massacre in 1919. 
The battalion was disbanded in 1922.
The Territorial Efficiency medal was instituted in 
1908 and remained in use in this form until 1921. 
It was awarded for 12 years of continuous efficient 
service (wartime service was counting double). 
An exceptionally rare medal, not only because it 
was awarded to a cyclist NCO but also especially 
for the low regimental number (4) of the recipient.
