GREECE: WW2 Medal of the War 1940 - 1941 for
the Army and the Air Force (for Land Operations).
Obverse: King George II of Greece
Reverse: Inscribed "1940-41, ΗΠΕΙΡΟΣ, ΑΛΒΑΝΙΑ,
ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΙΑ, ΘΡΑΚΗ, ΚΡΗΤΗ" (Epirus, Albania,
Macedonia, Thrace, Crete) the main Theaters of
Operations of the War.
The medal was established in 1947 and was
awarded to members of the Hellenic Army who
participated in the land operations against the
Italians and the Germans up to the end of the
Battle of Crete.
The medal was also awarded to British and
Commonwealth Troops (Australians and New
Zealanders) who fought in Greece and Crete.
A similar medal for the Navy (with different
inscription on the reverse) also exists.
