Greece: Ribbon bar of 5 WW2 medals of an Officer
of the Royal Hellenic Air Force.
Due to the small size of the RHAF and especially
of its Officer Corps, such bars are very rare.
Given the type of the awards the Officer was a
Wing Commander (Army rank: Lt. Colonel).
From left to right and from the upper line to the
lower:
- Officer's Cross in the Royal Order of George I
- Officer's Cross in the Royal Order of Phoenix.
- WW2 Royal Hellenic Air Force Merit Cross -
1945
- Medal of Military Merit 3rd Class (for Wing
Commanders)
- WW2 Commemorative Medal for the Greek-Italian
War 1940-41.
The Air Force Merit Cross was instituted in 1945
and it was awarded only to Officers of the RHAF
for outstanding leadership, distinguished service
and outstanding administration in war time.
