Greece: WW2 Royal Hellenic Air Force Merit Cross,
1945.
The Cross was awarded to Officers of the RHAF
(Royal Hellenic Air Force) for outstanding leader-
ship, distinguished service and outstanding
administration in war time, or for meritorious
services that helped promoting the war effort.
The RHAF Merit Cross was instituted in 1945 by
King Paul I and it was awarded initially for WW2
with the date "1945" on the reverse.
It was amended in 1953 in order to be awarded for
the Greek Civil War and the Korean War as well,
with the date "1948" on the reverse.
The Cross is scarce, given the small size of the
RHAF and the fact that it was awarded only to
officers.
This is the 1st type of the Cross.
