ITALY: Silver Commemorative Military Medal for the
Italian Wars of Independence (1859 - 1870), against
Austria and the Kingdom of the 2 Sicilies.
With "1860 - 61" bar for the "Mille Expedition" of
General Garibaldi, against the Kingdom of the 2
Sicilies (Kingdom of Sicily and Kingdom of Naples)
following the 2nd War of the Italian Independence.
After the 2nd War of Independence the unification
movement reached the brink of fruition - only Rome
and Venice (occupied by Austria) remained to be
added.
The medal was instituted by King Vittorio Emanuele
II, in 1865, to reward the participants of the Wars.
This is the rarest version of the medal, maker
marked "CANZANI".
