ITALY - Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Naples &
Sicily): Silver (Silvered Bronze) Medal for the
Distribution of the Flags to the Provincial Legions

The medal was established in 1809, by Joachim-
Napoléon Murat, King of the Two Sicilies, on the
occasion of the ceremony for the distribution
of the flags to the Provincial Legions, that was
held on 26 March 1809 and the King attended
together with his wife Caroline Bonaparte.
The medal was awarded to the participants of the
ceremony.
According to the Royal decree of 29 March 1809
there were ordered 2000 medals in bronze and
1000 medals in silver.
The examples with the suspender and the ribbon
were awarded to the Legionaries who took over
the flags during the ceremony - the color of the
ribbons differed according to the color of the
uniform of the recipient.
This is the French made example, in silvered
bronze, hallmarked by the Paris Mint.
