The Calabrian-Sicilian Earthquake of 28 Dec.
1908 claimed more than 100.000 fatalities and
it is the deadliest of the European history.
The epicenter was in the Straits of Messina
(between Sicily and the Italian peninsula).

(tsunami) swept ashore and destroyed 90%
of the buildings in the cities of Messina in
Sicily and Reggio di Calabria on the mainland,
as well as in many other towns and villages
