ITALY - Duchy of Tuscany: Commemorative Medal
for the 25th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy.
The medal was issued in 1884 to the Veterans of
Tuscany who participated to the Italian 1st and
2nd Unification and Independence Wars (1848-
1845, 1859) against Austria.
The 2nd Italian War of Independence (1859), also
called the Austro-Sardinian War or Austro-
Piedmontese War, was fought by the Allied
Forces of Imperial France and the Kingdom of
Sardinia against the Austrian Empire.
It was a key event in the process of the Italian
Unification as Sardinia annexed Lombardy from
Austria. Milan, the capital of Lombardy is the
largest city in North Italy with key role as an
industrial, economical and agricultural center.
