ITALY: Silver Royal House Memorial Medal of King
Vittorio Emanuele III.
In its box of issue with the Royal Cipher on the lid.
Obverse: The portrait of King Vittorio Emanuele III.
Reverse: Inscribed "Ricordo" (Memorial).
Suspender: Marked "Roma" (Rome) at the top,
engraved with the Knot of Savoia at the lower
part.
The medal was established in 1902, in 3 classes
(gold, silver, bronze), to be awarded by the
Minister of the Royal House to eminent Italian
and mainly foreign personalities both military
and civilian, as a reward for particular services
rendered to the Sovereign family.
This is the official example of the medal, maker
marked by the Royal Mint (Regia Zecca) and
designed by the engraver Filippo Speranza.
The medal is scarce, especially in its silver and
gold grades.
