ITALY: Commemorative Medal of the Nationalist
Campaign, 1920-23.
Inscribed: "Always Ready for the Country and
King".
Type B of the medal.
Unofficial Medal that was established in 1924
to be awarded to the Blueshirts - the militia of
the Italian Nationalist Association (ANI) who
participated in the Italian Fascist Campaign.
The ANI, Italy's first Nationalist Party was
founded in 1910. The party and especially its
paramilitary wing (called the Blueshirts) inspired
Benito Mussolini and influenced the creation of
the National Fascist Party that was formed in
1921. In 1922 the ANI participated in the March
on Rome, with an important role although at the
time it was not completely aligned with Benito
Mussolini' party. In 1923 ANI and its Blueshirts
merged with the Fascist Party and the
Blackshirts (MVSN).
