ITALY: Commemorative medal for the native
Eritrean Army Corps (Askaris) that took part
in the invasion of Ethiopia.
The medal was instituted in 1936.
Obverse: An Askari soldier running forward
with his riffle and sword. In addition the
inscriptions "Erithrean Army Corps", "Like an
Erithrean Falcon", "F.Belesa - Addis Abeba",
"B'amora Ghebba"
Reverse: The names of the battles that the
Askaris participated in as well as the dates
(calculated since 1922 when Mussolini
ascended to power).
Bronze grade, maker marked by Lorioli, Milano
and signed by Morbiducci.
The Italian forces invaded Ethiopia in 1935
and despite the brave resistance of the local
armed forces, the Italians managed to conquer
the country.
The medal is scarce.
