Heavy Cruiser R.N. Trieste, in 1926.
Silver, marked "800", signed by Ferrea, Genova.
RN Trieste was the 2nd of two Trento-class heavy
cruisers built for the Italian Royal Navy. The ship
was laid down in Jun. 1925, was launched in Oct.
1926 and was commissioned in Dec. 1928.
RN Trieste took part in the repatriation of the Italian
Volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War
(1938) and saw extensive action during WW2
(Battles of Cape Spartivento and Cape Matapan,
convoy escorts to North Africa). In Nov. 1941, she
was torpedoed by a British submarine and in Apr.
1943 she was bombed and sunk by American
heavy bombers, while moored in La Maddalena,
Sardinia.
