Japan: Order of the Rising Sun VIII Class. 
In its box of issue.
The Order was established in 1875 in eight 
classes. 
The badge features rays of sunlight from the 
rising sun based on  the concept of Japan 
being the"Land of the Rising Sun".
The order was awarded for exemplary military 
and civil services, with the class of the being 
linked to the rank of the recipient. 
This is a WW2 example of the medal.
