Luxembourg: Army Cross for 30 Years Military
Service, for NCOs and Other Ranks.
Marked FW (for Francois Wunsch) and A950
(Silver 950) on the ring.
The Service Cross for NCOs was instituted in
1850 in 3 Classes (for 10, 20 and 30 years of
service).
On the obverse: The Coat of Arms of Luxembourg
On the reverse: The "Crowned W" cipher of Grand
Duke Wilhelm III (actually King Wilhelm III of the
Netherlands who was also Grand Duke of
Luxembourg).
This is the 2nd type of the Cross, issued since
1883. WW1 era luxurious example of the medal
(the FW mark on the ring limits the age of this
medal in the period 1903-1940)
A rare medal, given the small population of
Luxembourg, its even smaller armed forces and
the fact that the crosses were returnable.
