Luxembourg: Order of the Resistance 1940 -
1944, Medal.
The Order was instituted in 1946 to recognize
civilians who, during the German occupation
of Luxembourg in WW2, "distinguished
themselves in the service of the national or
allied cause, or by brilliant acts of resistance,
courage, and dedication". Those recognized
could be awarded either a cross or a medal
by the Grand Duke/Duchess of Luxembourg.
Awards to foreigners were extended only in
exceptional cases so given the small
population of Luxembourg this is considered
one of the rarest WW2 resistance awards.
