MONTENEGRO: Order of Danilo I, Knight's Cross,
V (5th) Class, 2nd type, 1861-1873 issue, in silver
and enamel.
French made, luxurious example, maker marked
by Arthus Bertrand & Cie, Paris.
The Order was established by Prince Danilo, in
1853, to reward acts of bravery in the War for the
Independence of Montenegro (from the rule of
the Ottoman Empire) during the period 1852-
1853.
Following its 1st reorganization, by Prince
Nicholas I in 1861, the Order was also awarded
for civil as well as military merit.
The Order was again amended to its final form
in 1873. This example is of the rare 2nd type,
from the period 1861 to 1873.750
