The decoration was established in 1939, by
the Commander in Chief of the German Army,
General Field Marshal W. von Brauchitsch.
For the Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS.
The silver badge was awarded to members
of non-motorized Infantry Units and Units of
the Gebirgsjäger (Alpine/Mountain Troops)
that had participated in Infantry assaults, with
light Infantry weapons, on at least three days
of front line battle on or after 1 Jan. 1940.
The award of the Infantry Assault Badge was
authorized at the Regimental Command level.
