Maker marked "33" on the ring - a rarely seen
maker's mark.
Maker "33" : Friedrich Linden, Ludenscheid 
(FLL) .
The Cross was instituted in 1813 by King 
Friedrich Wilhelm III and was designed by Karl 
Friedrich Schinkel. 
It was used in 1870 during the Franco- 
Prussian War, during WW1 and WW2. 
The Iron Cross was issued for bravery in the 
field and for military merit.
