NAZI GERMANY: Spanish Cross, in Gold (Silver
Gilt) with Swords.
The Cross was established in 1939 to be awarded
to the German Volunteers (of the Wehrmacht and
Luftwaffe), members of the Condor Legion, who
fought on the side of the Nationalists of General
Franco during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
Additionally the Spanish Cross was awarded to
men of the German Navy who participated in
operations in Spain during the same period.
The Cross was issued in Bronze, Silver and Gold
with or without swords (for combatants and non
combatants respectively.
The Gold Cross was issued only with swords,
while 28 Gold Crosses were also awarded with
brilliants. Only 1100 Spanish Crosses in Gold
were awarded in total.
This is a high quality example, maker marked
C.E.J (by J. E. Juncker, Berlin) in silver gilt,
marked 900 on the reverse.
