Netherlands: Expedition Cross or Cross for
Important War Actions.
With clasps "Atjeh 1911-14" and "Timor 1911-
17".
The Cross was established by King Willem III,
in 1869. It was awarded to participants in major
campaigns.
On the obverse: The portrait of King Willem III,
encircled by the inscription "Voor Krijgsverrigt-
ingen" (For War Actions).
The Clasps:
The "Atjeh" clasp was initially instituted in 1881
as "Atjeh 1873 - 1874" and was awarded for
service during the Atjeh War (Atjeh: today Aceh,
Sumatra, Indonesia) in the Dutch East Indies.
As the Atjeh War continued raging on, 6 Atjeh
bars were introduced to cover the entire period.
The clasp "Atjeh 1911-14" was instituted in
1929 and was awarded for service in the Atjeh
region during the respective period - it is the
last of the "Atjeh" clasps.
The "Timor 1911-17" clasp was also instituted
in 1929 and was awarded to participants in the
expedition to Timor during the respective
period.
An early example of the cross.
