Netherlands: WW2 East Asia Resistance Star
in its envelope of issue marked:
"KONINKLIJKE BEGEER VOORSCHOTEN".
On the obverse: "De Geest Overwint" (The
Spirit Triumphs).
On the reverse: "MAART 1942, O. AZIE,
AUGUSTUS 1945" (March 1942, East Asia,
August 1945).
Maker marked: "KON. BEGEER" and also
"F.S.INV" (for Frans Smits, the designer of
the medal).
The Star was instituted in 1948 by Queen
Juliana.
It was awarded to members of the Royal Dutch
East Indies Army who joined the Resistance
following the Japanese invasion and
occupation of Dutch East Asia (Indonesia) or
to those who, at great personal risk, assisted
Dutch prisoners of war (PoW) or internees.
On ribbon for recipients who were not
members of the Royal Dutch East Indies
Army.
The Star was awarded just 471 times and it
is scarce.
