Norway: Ribbon for boutonniere lapel pin for the
WW2 Participation Medal (or Narvik Medal), 1940–
1945. Lenght: 10 cm.
On its card of issue, by Belgian maker (the maker
is most likely the House of Degreef in Brussels
but the firm is not marked on the card).
The ribbon was exclusively made to be issued to
the members of the Union of the Veterans of
Namsos.
The Participation medal was instituted in 1945
and was awarded to both Norwegian and Allied
military and civilians who participated in the
defensive operations following the German
invasion of 9 April 1940 (battle of Narvik) or
served in the Norwegian Armed Forces or
aboard vessels of the Merchant Navy during
WW2.
The medal is also known as the "Narvik medal"
as it was awarded to the participants of the 2
Battles of Narvik. The Battles of Narvik were
fought from 9 Apr. to 8 Jun. 1940 as a naval
battle in the Ofotfjord and as a land battle in the
mountains surrounding the City.
