and the Sun (later known as Order of Homayoun),

In its box of issue by Arthus Bertrand, Paris.
On the obverse: The Lion & the Sun
On the reverse: Inscribed in Farsi "Pahlavi, the
King of Kings of Iran", circumscribed above "In
honor of Service".
Dated "25 Azar 1304" (16 Dec. 1925).
The Order was instituted in 1808 by Fath Ali Shah
of the Qajar Dynasty as the Royal Order of the
Sun to be awarded to foreign officials (later
extended to Persians as well) who had rendered
distinguished services to Persia.
In 1820 it was reorganized and renamed to
Imperial Order of the Lion and the Sun.
In 1925, the Qajar Dynasty was replaced by the
Pahlavi Dynasty.
The Order remained in use and continued to be
awarded as the Order of Homayoun, after being
reorganized in 5 classes and 3 medals.
The last award was recorded in 1941 prior to the
Allied invasion of Iran.
