Romania: WW1 Commemorative War Cross
(1916 – 1918) with 2 clasps (Bucuresti
(Bucharest) and 1919).
The medal was instituted in 1918 and was
awarded to military and civilian personnel
for service during the Great War.
Romania entered the War in 1916 on the
Entente side, despite the alliance of the
country with both Germany and the
Austro-Hungarian Empire and the fact that
the Romanian Royal House was of German
origin.
The clasps:
- “Bucuresti”: for the battle of Bucharest
(also known as the Battle of Neajlov-Arges)
which took place between 29 Nov. and
3 Dec. 1916.
The bar is quite rare.
- “1919”: for the operations of the respective
year (against the Hungarians inTransylvania
and against the Soviet Red Army in Bessa-
rabia) during the Hungarian–Romanian War
(1918-1920).
The Cross is hard to find, especially with
original clasps.
