the emblem of the Order on the lid. 
On the central medallion (obverse):
 "The Military Order of the Knights of Malta - Well 
Deserved"
On the reverse of the Commander's Cross: 
"A.D. 1920" . 
The Breast Star is maker marked on the reverse 
by Cravanzola-Gardino of Rome.
Enamels intact on both medals. 
A stunning post WW1 set in silver & silver gilt.
