SPAIN: Royal and Military Order of Our Lady of
Montesa, Knight's Cross.
In its box of issue.
The Order was established in 1319 by King Jaime
II of Aragon and in its modern form in the first half
of the 19th Century by King Ferdinand VII.
This example is of the 2nd version of the medal
(since 1875) and was most likely awarded after
the re-establishment of the Order in 1940,
following the end of the Spanish Civil War.
The ribbon is trifold (Austrian - Hungarian style)
and appears that it was never used as it is not
attached on the medal.
The Order is very rare. A very fine example.
