Ottoman Empire (Turkey): WW1 Turkish Red
Crescent Medal for Merit with Clasp and Oak
Leaves Citation.
Bronze (III) Class with white enamel bar with
suspension pin on the reverse.
This medal was the equivalent of the Red Cross
Medal for the Ottoman Empire due to the fact that
it was a Muslim Country.
Inscribed "Humanitarian Aid" in Arabic letters.
Under the inscription there is the Ottoman Sultan's
Tughra.
The medal was instituted in 1903 and was issued
for outstanding meritorious frontline service to
the Ottoman Red Crescent Association (founded
in 1868).
It was awarded until the establishment of the
Turkish Republic, by Kemal Ataturk, in 1923.
A very rare medal, especially with bars and oak
leaves.
