1941 1945.

The medal was instituted in 1946 and was awarded 
to officers and sailors aboard vessels operated by 
or for the US Maritime Commission or the War 
Shipping Administration for minimum thirty days 
of service  between 7 Dec. 1941 and 31 Dec. 1946. 
The medal presents Athena Nike holding a trident 
and a laurel branch stepping on the conning tower 
of a submarine. 
On the reverse: a naval anchor with three ribbons 
inscribed "FIRMITAS ADVERSARIA SUPERAT" 
(Firmness Will Prevail Over Enemies).80
