VATICAN: Castelfidardo Medal (also known as
"Pro Petri Sede Medal") with "Monte-Belaco"
clasp in silver, marked by Artus Bertrand.
The medal was instituted by Pope Pius IX in
1860 after the defeat of the Papal troops in
the Battle of Castelfidardo. It was not limited
to the Battle of Castelfidardo and was
awarded to the participants of the campaign,
with clasps that indicated the battles each
recipient took part in.
A hard to find award in nickel silver, issued
to NCOs and other ranks.
