The medal reads in Latin:
"Pope Pius IX, Restored to Rome by the Allied
Catholic Armies, 1849".
The medal was awarded, in 1849, by Pope Pius
IX to the 9000 French troops of General Oudinot
that, after a 3 months siege, restored Rome to
the Pope following the capture of the city by the
forces of General Garibaldi.
The medal is rare as a medallion.
