Product Information
Specification
VATICAN: Miniature of the Lateran Cross
"Gold (bronze gilt)", 1st Class.
The decoration was established in 1903 by
Pope Leo XIII, in 3 classes, to be awarded to
members of the Church (clergy) as a
recognition of merit.
It is named after the Basilica of St. John in
Lateran (Vatican Cathedral in Rome).
The medal has been crafted in a number of
designs: with or without an adjoining circle,
as well as a solid medal with a cross in relief.
The last award of the Cross was recorded in
1977.
The "gold" class example is very hard to find.
This is a post WW2, 2nd type of the Cross,
with the adjoining circle.
