Vatican: Medal "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" Cross,
1st Class, "gold" (gilt), in its box of issue by the
House of Marschall in Vienna, with the Papal Coat
of Arms of Pope Pius XI (1922-1939) on the lid.
The decoration was established in 1888 by Pope
Leo XIII, in 3 classes, to be awarded to those who
had significant contribution on his Golden Jubilee
and the Vatican Exposition.
Since 1898 it is awarded to members of the
Church (clergy) and civilians as a recognition of
outstanding service to the Pope or the Catholic
Church.
