Austro-Hungarian Empire: Iron Cross for Merit
with Crown for Officers.
The medal was established in 1916 as the
Austrian equivalent to the German Iron Cross.
It was awarded without Crown to soldiers
and NCOs and with Crown (as this example)
to Officers.
Early issue, iron made (zinc was used to
produce the later examples as iron was
reserved for the war needs).
