IMPERIAL GERMANY - Imperial Navy (Kaiserliche 
Marine): WW1 "Marine" or " Flanders " Cross on 
its original ribbon with 2 clasps for participation 
in the respective battles:
- SOMME (Battle of the Somme, Jul. 1, 1916 – Nov. 
18, 1916)
- FLANDERNSCHLACHT (Battle of Flanders) 
The Cross was instituted in 1921 as an unofficial 
veteran award. 
Just like the majority of the awards of the Weimar 
Republic, only the diploma was actually issued.
The Cross and the respective clasps had to be 
purchased privately by the recipients. 
Only roughly 30.000 Crosses were authorized.
