ITALY: Silver Commemorative Military Medal for the 
Italian Wars of Independence (1859 - 1870),  against 
Austria and the Kingdom of the 2 Sicilies.  
With "1866" bar for the War against Austria (3rd 
Italian War of Independence)
The year 1866 is a milestone year for the Italian 
History due to the annexation of Venice (occupied 
by Austria). 
Rome and the Papal States followed 3 years later.
The medal was instituted by King Vittorio Emanuele 
II, in 1865, to reward the participants of the Wars. 
This is the rarest version of the medal, maker 
marked "CANZANI".
