opener, with lion head grip – for the Officers
of the Bersaglieri Regiments.
The Bersaglieri (Sharpshooters) were elite
Light Infantry Units of the Royal Italian Army
and of the Italian Army after 1949.
They were originally formed by General
Alessandro La Marmora in 1836. They are
famous for their distinctive wide-brimmed
hats and combat helmets decorated with
black capercaillie feathers.
