Latvia: Commemorative Medal for the 10th
Anniversary of the Battles for the Liberation
of Latvia with Swords for Combatants, 1918-1928

The medal is also known as Medal for the 10th
Anniversary of the Latvian War of Liberation,
1918-1928.
Signed by Zim. Stromberis and Grav. Bergs.
On the obverse: The rising sun and Latvian
soldiers in a village with bayonets fixed on their
rifles.
On the reverse: Dated 1918-1928, 3 Stars for the
3 provinces of Latvia (Courland with Semigallia,
Livland and Latgallia), inscribed "PAR LATVIJU"
(for Latvia).
The medal was instituted in 1928 and was
awarded to Latvian citizens and foreigners, who
served in the National Army and fought against
the German Freikorps and the Bolsheviks during
the War of Liberation (18 Nov. 1918-11 Aug. 1920).
The medal was awarded without swords to
support troops and with swords to combatants.
The medal is hard to find.
